A Very Special Evening
May 17, 2008 by Tara Lacher
On April 28, 2008 I attended the Annual FCE Spring Banquet in Wing, ND. The banquet was for the Burleigh County homemakers and Wing hosted the event.
One of the members asked me to do a presentation about my pink scarves. As I approached the podium and was getting organized, I looked out into the audience and saw a rainbow of pink scarves. Almost every woman was wearing a scarf around her neck. I just stopped and stared. It was so beautiful – it took my breath away. There was every shade of pink you could imagine!
After my presentation, I was given the scarves, one by one, by the women who made them. My project received 32 scarves that evening! Wow!
Thank you, ladies, for such a wonderful evening. Believe me, it was an evening I will never forget.

I am the owner of a fitness studio in Potomac, Md. I read the article in Woman’s Magazine and was so touched by the idea that I started a “Breast Cancer Scarf Drive” at my club. Before I even announced it, it took on a life of its own. Members started inquiring about it and scarfs started showing up out of nowhere. On Nov. 14th we are having a Kniting Night at the studio. A member of the gym offered to teach participants how to knit and how to make a pink scarf for the drive. We are hoping to get the local newspapers involved so the whole community knows about the event. I lost a dear friend to breast cancer 2 yrs ago so I am passionate about helping woman in any way that I can.
