Remembering Jane Hruby

June 9, 2010

A dear friend passed away today – her name was Jane Hruby. She was one of the first recipients of the My Pink Scarf, Inc. project.

Jane was first diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was told upon being diagnosed that if she lived for five years, she would be lucky. Being the fighter she was, she survived.

Almost ten years later, she had reoccurrence of her cancer. She, again, was determined to beat the odds and did second time.

In 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and survived that challenge as well.

In February 2010, her health was declining further and breathing was becoming increasingly more difficult. Even so, she retained the smile and humor she was well-known for. Hospice provided wonderful care for the last 1 1/2 weeks of her life.

Jane was only 66 when she died.

Remembering Peggy Morgen

September 6, 2008

I lost someone special on September 2, 2008.  Her name was Peggy Morgen and she died after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was only 52 years old. I had the pleasure of meeting Peggy about a year ago.  I was attending a funeral and she came up to me after the service and asked if I was the “Pink Scarf Lady.”  I told her that I was and she asked if she could receive a scarf because she was battling cancer.  We visited for a while and I told her a scarf would be in the mail the very next day.  She sent me the most beautiful card and she couldn’t believe that a complete “stranger” cared so much for women who were battling cancer. I will always remember Peggy’s smile – it was contagious! Peggy, you will be missed.

Remembering Anna Hohbein

August 24, 2008

On August 17, 2008 I lost a special friend, Anna Hohbein.  She was 72 and was the second recipient of a pink wrap, which she received on May 5, 2007.

Anna was featured inThe Bismarck Tribune where she shared her story about battling inflammatory ductal carcinomna, a rare form of breast cancer.  Anna was always upbeat and appreciated her life. “I know life could end tomorrow, so I appreciate today,” she said.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet you.

Anna, you will be missed.
